LIFE-MAPPER Expert Questionnaire Now Available

LIFE-MAPPER invites marine researchers and practitioners to contribute to the development of harmonised European guidance for marine habitat mapping, condition assessment, and restoration planning, supporting the implementation of the Nature Restoration Regulation, the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), and the Habitats Directive.

The questionnaires aim to gather expert knowledge on methods and indicators used for habitat condition assessment, the definition and application of reference conditions and ecological thresholds, and existing regional or national approaches relevant to implementation. This input will directly inform the LIFE-MAPPER Manual and the Knowledge Platform, helping to identify common practices, regional differences, and operational needs across European marine regions.

Building on decades of scientific progress in marine monitoring and restoration, LIFE-MAPPER consolidates methodologies and best practices into robust, science-based guidance to support effective and consistent implementation of restoration targets across the EU.

By participating, experts contribute to strengthening the scientific foundation for marine habitat assessment and restoration at European level. The questionnaire can be completed for one or multiple habitats, and responses may include references to relevant guidelines, datasets, or scientific publications.

We warmly invite the scientific community to share its expertise and help shape harmonised marine restoration guidance for Europe.
