About US

Our Mission

LIFE-MAPPER supports EU seas through NRL, MSFD, and EU Biodiversity Strategy. Join us to share expertise, collaborate, and strengthen marine conservation knowledge. Together we advance habitat mapping, restoration, and informed marine spatial planning. Contact us to participate and help secure a sustainable ocean future

Consortium

The consortium is composed of key international partners from three different European countries (IT, GR, IRL) - Four scientific partners who have complementary competences on habitat mapping, ecological status assessment at varius scales, systematic conservation planning, and implementation of marine restoration interventions both in deep sea and in shallow waters.

CNR-ISMAR (Italy)

The National Research Council – Institute of Marine Sciences coordinates LIFE-MAPPER. It leads on habitat mapping, ecological condition assessment, and integrates methodologies to support EU directives and marine spatial planning

ISPRA (Italy)

The Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research ensures scientific and technical input for policy alignment. It develops indicators, criteria, and thresholds for habitat condition and favourable reference areas.

Università Politecnica delle Marche (Italy)

UNIVPM provides advanced research on marine ecosystems and ecological connectivity. It plays a key role in evaluating restoration strategies, cost assessments, and long-term ecological impacts.

University of Naples Federico II (Italy)

UniNa contributes strong expertise in marine ecology, biodiversity, and monitoring. It develops methodologies for habitat condition assessments and supports the design of effective restoration protocols.

University of the Aegean (Greece)

UAEGEAN specializes in marine spatial planning, geoinformatics, and data analysis. It supports spatial prioritization frameworks and systematic reviews for mapping and restoration planning.

University of Galway (Ireland)

UOG contributes expertise in restoration science and socio-ecological research. It leads work on cost-effectiveness analysis of restoration measures and the upscaling of marine restoration practices.

SPACE42 (Italy)

SPACE42 brings innovation in digital platforms, web technologies, and knowledge-sharing tools. It develops the LIFE-MAPPER Knowledge Platform and GeoPortal, ensuring user-friendly access to data, maps, and project resources.
